Today was a big appointment kind of day and also, somehow, a very festive one!

(Shout-out to Ashley for being with me while Jon had to work)

We had an ultrasound with a fetal cardiologist because of gestational diabetes. They were looking for missing chambers, valve thickening, and any other tiny heart shenanigans. The best possible news is that everything looks great. Nova's heart is strong, complete, and doing exactly what it should be doing.

Because there is a small family history of babies being born with teeny tiny holes that usually heal on their own, the doctors want to do a follow up echo after birth just to be extra careful. Nothing scary im told. Just thorough humans making sure everything continues to be perfect.

From there, I went straight to my diabetes doctor to discuss blood sugar fluctuations and to negotiate my Christmas menu like a very determined pregnant person. I have officially reached the stage of pregnancy where my insulin needs to go up again. Totally fine. Especially because it comes with snacks.

After careful review, discussion, and what felt like a very serious holiday summit, here is what Christmas eating looks like this year.

What I can eat:

-Tamales with less masa and more filling because balance

-All the salsa. Truly all of it.

-No tortillas 😭😭😭

-Champurrado and hot cocoa if made with whole milk and my numbers behave

-Menudo in joyful and generous quantities

-Buñuelos as long as my blood sugar is happy and I go for a little walk afterward

So yes, baby’s heart looks great, I am very well monitored, and Christmas will still be delicious. We

are entering the holidays grateful, relieved, and fully committed to walking off buñuelos if necessary.
