Is Nova her name?
Not yet. We are still working on that. Jon had strong feelings about me referring to the baby as "it" or "the fetus", which are technically correct but apparently not cute. So we needed a nickname.
Jon is a Cancer, ruled by the Moon. I am a Leo, powered by the Sun. Our little one felt like a star between us, so we chose Nova as her placeholder name. It is far more charming than Fetus McBaby.
When did you find out?
We found out back in July. We kept it quiet for two reasons. First, I am awkward and had no idea how to tell people. Second, I was convinced no one would really care. As in, oh cute, a baby, anyway...
So we minded our business, took our vitamins, and only now are emerging into the light like confused mole people.
Did you do a gender reveal:
Yes we did. We are very proud to say no forests burned, no fire departments were called, and no one required medical attention.
Our reveal was simple. We gave an ice cream attendant a sealed note from my doctor and asked him to make a milkshake that told us the news. I was team boy. Jon was team girl.
In the end, we are mostly thrilled that the result confirmed she is indeed human. You can watch the video here.
Are you doing okay this pregnancy?
Thank you for asking. I am currently being very disrespectfully labeled a geriatric pregnancy and I am working through my feelings about that. I am also dealing with gestational diabetes and a high risk for preeclampsia, so my daily life now involves strict food rules, many medicines and an ongoing internal battle with my very strong desire for bread, sweets and real syrup.
The good news is that baby is doing great. I have also learned many unexpected facts, such as the surprising truth that twenty grapes are fifteen carbohydrates and that club soda is packed with salt but tastes absolutely incredible when you are not allowed to have real soda. So overall, we are doing well.
Do you have a nursery theme or style?
Yes. We are aiming for a myths and legends theme. We are decorating the walls in greens and golds and a few deep reds and filling the room with magical creatures. Think phoenixes, Loch Ness monsters, will o the wisps, dragons and whatever other fantastical beings wander in. The goal is to make the space feel enchanted and wonder filled.
If you have any ideas or mythical creature suggestions, please share. We are fully committed to making this room an entire fairy tale.
Who do you think she will come out looking like
We have absolutely no idea. I am personally hoping she arrives as Jon’s tiny twin. Jon is convinced she will look just like me. What we both know for sure is that this child is destined for curly hair and at least a few glorious rolls. Imagine the Michelin Man but significantly cuter and far more dramatic. That is our working prediction.
